For a Daughter

For A Daughter
November 2017
jp

There was a time,
in a land far far away,
lost in the valleys and mountains of Bhutan,
that I loved your mother.

And isn’t life miraculous
that here you are today,
a young woman
on two feet
with a soul
a mind
and a strength beyond compare.

So I was just thinking,
please think
please feel
please believe
that you matter.

You really do.

You are that wondrous thing,
a product of adventure
and the wild craziness of two impassioned people
whose love never gave up on you.

Sometimes I wonder where my love for your mother is now.
From time to time I look around the corner for it.
Not disappeared.
Just tucked away hiding.

Isn’t it funny that others love
in ways so few of us, if any of us ever, can understand.

So I just suggest,
you might wish to keep love an open book
with still more pages yet to turn,
hard work and hurt, I know, make us afraid,
but you never know what nice surprises it may bring.
