Just One More Page Please

Just one more page - please
I am at wit’s end
The last white sheets of my diary done.

Before I’m finished
I’m wishing for an eulogy
Wondering what it means to bring life to end.

Like closing of a love story
No happy ending here
Broken hearts, sadnesses, lost connections, emptinesses.

Is it time to sleep, rest
Empty mind and heart
No space left to fill again.

On cliff top where I stand
With face turned to the wind
Autumn speaks to me here
I look out the sky begins to overcast
The yellows, reds, browns of forest leaves
Shivering their end to a season.

Though the forest calls
I’ve here but a day
I must to the city go
Travelling far too much a week and people beckon
So if to the city I must go
I  must come back again
Soon
Because I am empty
And not yet refreshed.

Oh my, how love and love lost are so exhausting
Blown away in gusting wind.

So for a moment more I still stand
Here on a forest edge
Expecting to be cleansed
Breathe deep
Breathe deep my soul
Patience, be still.

To accept the end in return I offer
One prayer
In exchange I accept autumn here.

But face the end I cannot
For my story begs a blank white sheet
Just one more page - please.
