Heaven
1990 and many times rewritten thereafter
jp melville

Cause I picked a flower in heaven one day
Been walking down a road a long time now
Still not seen no end
I keep on walking along wishing to believe
That I’ll wake in the morning again.

Now come on baby reach across this endless sea
Something they call eternity
Hold out your hand take the light in your eyes
There’s no distance in infinity.

Crazy that I been learning all life long
To be looking somewhere I’ll never be
Crazy there’s something just a bit lonely
To be searching for what I’ll never see.

Somewhere I been looking for miracles
Wondering far away outside
Funny how I begin to find a few of them
When I come to learn to look inside.

Found a little seed hiding way down there
Way down in the deepest dark
And only when I let a little love inside
Did the dark become heaven’s light.

Now come on baby reach across this endless sea
Something they call eternity
Hold out your hand take the light in your eyes
There’s no distance in infinity

Where I picked a flower in heaven one day,
thinking then of you,
But because I was there,
and you were here,
it was only the thought I gave to you.
