Only love can hurt like memory...

It wasn’t all I did just dream of you
In a wee hour morning
Chatting over coffee car engine running warm otherwise empty winter parking lot
Police came to say hello
So your lips I never kissed.

I watch and listen
Your arm sweeps finger tips charcoal over paper shshshshshsh
Scent of oil paint I remember auburn hair
Taste of turpentine suspended air
On your lips I never kissed.

Soft sadness smile gaze distance focused far past me
Your brush your words you said I'd never be ready
My life's canvas forever painted
Through your lips I never kissed.
