Trilogy in the Spaces - Afternoon
Sept 15, 2018
jp

Afternoon.

Afternoon September heat
Oh…  a fly buzzes
Chipmunks have gone completely still
From their early morning rampage scavenging.

Gently chirps and cricket rasps
Bees and other insects suckle the end of pollen
In the goldenrod.

Leaves of poplar shimmer in the sunlight
Maple leaves tremble in the hint of breeze
Weed plants brown and heavy with seed
Wave incredulous that the end is nigh.

Salty sticky sweat on all my skin
Sun rays steep autumn hint angles
Burn one side of my face
Tear through the canopy
Of oak leaves and pine needles
Streaking vibrant light in tearing
Across the forest floor.

A whisper in the wind she says,
I am cool now, in gentle caresses,
You’ve done your work this fecund season
Fruit nuts seed
Now let me sooth you, rest
Breathe my velvet love for you
Treasure me in this moment
While I love you in my leaving
I linger
So suckle from me
Wet lips mingle my sweat on your tongue
Let your seed too be mine in me
Come
Again
Again
Come
Forget your sorrows sadness be oblivion…
While I whisper to myself my eyes lifted to the sky
In silent lovesong
Wracked with senseless pain
Oh suckle me
I must soon be gone.

And the sunlight cools a little bit upon my skin
And the intensity of light shifts from yellow
Toward pure clarity
And the wind whispers in the forest slip toward silence
Clouds linger unmoving
Crescent moon appears in blue wash
An anaesthetic begins to lift
For a moment
Pure stillness
Abandonment
All upheld in pregnant pause
Between love and end of life
Light and Dark.

Grace suspended moment fusion of eternal ecstasy.
