Trilogy in the Spaces -Night
Sept 14, 2018
jp

Night.

On way past dusk and alcohol and
                autumn nights that grow and
                                sometimes never end.

The nights grow longer now
And I don’t drink
Because if I did
The night would be one that never ends.

It did just a while ago
The night came on that never ends
Old mouse
That found itself to the bread chunk
That I had stuffed onto the catch
Of a great big oversized
One mother of a mouse trap
Rat trap really
That I had bought and set for
Red squirrels really
And I heard the snap!
And when I went to check
Old mouse had met the last one
The night that never ends.

But for me the trap is mine
Because if I take that drink
If ever I would
My nights would no longer grow
But be the one that never ends.
