Deceived by Hope
many years of tinkering
jp melville

All things unknowable infinite
Humble
Compassionate
Love.

Of all emotions, thought,
Whether it be anger, desire, happiness, envy, melancholy, or more
Logic, madness, memory, or more
Nothing but what is unknown
Nothing but what is infinite
Is absolute,
Which is the philosophy of mathematics, or physics,
The only reason, the only truth
Of any science.

Only the unknown and the infinite give perspective
To what we feel
To what we see
To what we believe,
By balancing what we experience
With the knowledge that our experience is not absolute,
With knowing that there always is that something more,
That for every step we take
The next is unimaginable,
Always one small step beyond consciousness.

Patience,
The effort to understand
And watch the ugly unfold as beautiful,
Allow that which differs from us gain respect,
Or to unfetter complexity and free the simple to blossom into wonder.

How? Why?
Who knows.
For we discover that there is no answer,
That the answers are infinite,
Each answer never known before its birth.
Yet in this paradox -
No answer infinite answers,
Deceived by hope we fall away and close the doors
Believing by false futures that our thoughts are true, offering material certainty,
Even while knowing that the answer has come, will come, is already here.

I suggest:

Humility,
Abandon all this running around
Seeking answers
Seeking truth
When these have arrived, are here, forever will be.

Compassion,
For all the others who struggle like ourselves.

Love,
Wherein we abandon self in our compassion and humility.

Meaning that, in the end,
In reason there is only one true action.
Prayer.
Lord,
My Lord,
My only Lord.

God,
My God,
My only God.
Abandon me in love.
